Hokkaido Inu

Hokkaido Inu

The Hokkaido Inu, also known as the Ainu dog, is considered to be one of the oldest and purest of the medium-sized Japanese dog breeds. While it’s origins are sketchy, it’s history is strongly tied to the Ainu people who settled in Hokkaido nearly a millennium ago. Hokkaido often have black spots on their tongues and mouths, suggested a relation to the Chinese Chow Chow and Shar Pei.
